WSCC Committee report, November 2016

Cllr Anne Prior, Chairman of the WSCC Committee, writes:

The committee has not met since the last monthly council meeting. However, that does not mean that nothing has happened. Indeed, quite the opposite.

On Friday 21st the building was handed over to the council. Cllr Michael and I were there to take the keys. Martin Walker from Wellan handed them to us after completing the snagging list.

On Tuesday, 18th Cllr Michael, the clerk and I went around the building with the fire safety officer and the various companies that had installed systems in the building. We were given a comprehensive run through how everything works.

The working group has also been busy. A telephone line has been connected to the building and it now has a number. We have interviewed candidates for the manager’s job and by the time you read this, we should have appointed.

We have had local contacts come in to look at the proposed gym and comment on the quotes we have received and this should be ordered shortly.

Cllr Kendall and I have been doing the shopping list to fit out the interior of the building and looking for contracts for various services.

It is an exciting time. A marketing plan has been drawn up and we will shortly be going out with this.

I contacted councillors with details of the bid we are making to Aviva Community Fund for money to install a lift. The move upstairs requires this and it is a large single expense.

If councillors would like to come and see the building now it is complete, please let me know and we can arrange that. I think you will be impressed by what has been achieved.

The next meeting of the committee is 15th November.
