Despite the weather, the crowds turned out for the switch on of the lights on Saturday 28 November. Father Christmas arrived courtesy of Wellesbourne Fire Crew and he, with the help of the winners of the picture competition, turned on the lights.
The event was very festive with Shipston Brass Band playing seasonal music and the choir from the Church singing carols. Inside the village hall, the Lions served up lots of mulled wine and mince pies.
There was a variety of stalls where gifts and seasonal goodies could be bought and I would like to thank those stall holders who bravely withstood the elements outdoors. It was a pity that some events had to be cancelled but the weather was against us. However, it did improve after Father Christmas arrived, he obviously brought the clearer weather with him!
I would like to thank those of you who turned out. The Street Fayre Committee spend a great deal of time organizing the event and the support you gave was most appreciated.
The next main event will be the Street Fayre on Saturday, 11th. June 2016. Put it in your diaries now. If you would like to help with these events please contact me, the committee would welcome extra helpers even if it is only on the day.
Wellesbourne Sports and Community Centre
Work will begin on the building in January. The annexe will be built and the refurbishment of the current building will begin. There is now a small group of fundraisers working in the village and I hope that you will support them. A Facebook page has been set up by the fundraisers. Please visit it.
Mountford Play Area
The new picnic tables have been installed. These were paid for by the Street Fayre Committee from money raised from the Christmas Lights 2014 and the Street Fayre in 2015.
I know the area is well used and hope that the tables will provide an extra useful facility.
Finally, the Parish Council would like to wish you a Happy New Year.
